An Islamic state is a state that has a form of government grounded on Islamic law. As a term, it has been used to describe colorful literal polities and propositions of governance in the Islamic world. (1) As a restatement of the Arabic term dawlah islāmiyyah (Arabic دولة إسلامية) it refers to a ultramodern notion associated with political Islam (Islamism). (2) (3)
The conception of the ultramodern Islamic state has been articulated and promoted by ideologues similar as Sayyid Rashid Rida, Mohammed Omar, AbulA'la Maududi, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, Israr Ahmed, Sayyid Qutb and Hassan al-Banna. Perpetration of Islamic law plays an important part in ultramodern propositions of the Islamic state, as it did in classical Islamic political propositions. Still, the ultramodern propositions also make use of sundries that didn't live before the ultramodern period. (1)
Moment, numerous Muslim countries have incorporated Islamic law, wholly or in part, into their legal systems. Certain Muslim countries have declared Islam to be their state religion in their constitutions, but don't apply Islamic law in their courts. Islamic countries that aren't Islamic monarchies are substantially Islamic democracy.
